The UK government has NOT ordered people to buy or stockpile emergency medication; it has only advised households to keep a few days of essential supplies, including any regular prescription medicines, as part of its new Be Ready preparedness campaign.

What the government has said

The UK launched its Be Ready national resilience campaign on 22 October 2026, asking households to be able to manage three days of disruption (power cuts, water outages, cyber incidents, severe weather). This includes keeping essential medicines you already take, alongside water, food, torches and a radio.

The checklist includes “any medicines” you rely on, stored with other emergency items

The guidance is framed around severe weather and everyday disruption, not war or panic buying.

It explicitly says supplies should be built up gradually during normal shopping, not stockpiled in bulk.
